  • Ask Twice, Play Nice

Ok ok, I've really sucked @ updating this thing the last few weeks of school, which is a tragedy to whoever reads this because of some of the absolutely and positively epic stories that emerged from the winding down of junior year. What a semester for the record books, honestly. Looking back, it's so incredibly surreal to think I've been in college for 3 years as I can still recall finishing up my freshman year and posting a "Tyrone is officially done with Freshman Year!!" status update, vividly. Crazy. Where the F does time fly by? It's scary, and the real world does in fact terrify me, considering I've lived in this cozy, sheltered bubble for the last 21 years and have been pretty happy sustaining myself in it.

Regardless, this summer will hopefully provide me with the insight and tools I need to really figure out what I want to do with my life. I am not opposed to simply falling into something by a sheer stroke of luck or quick brillance either, but let's just see how the "Tyrone the Lobbyist" game plays out this summer in DC. I'll be chilling @ home in Jax until May 28th, heading to Charleston for the weekend to stay and see Ang and then I'm DC bound June 1 to July 31st. This will be my first official summer out of Jacksonville, and I couldn't be more excited. I will def update this thing to recap my DC adventures/internship. Fo sho.

  • Music Appreciation or Intoxication?

I love music. All kinds, actually. However, I'm not sure I am the level where I would sell my soul to see a certain group or artist perform. Such is the case for a large contingency of people for the group, O.A.R. The lovable pop-rock group out of Rockville, MD came to our campus this weekend to perform. Despite only knowing "Crazy Game of Poker", I said fuck it, why not, and went to go see them perform. It amazed me how many people had seen them in concert "5, 6, 7, or even 8 times". Are you fucking serious? I mean, I love my favorite artists just as much as the next guy, but you traveled all across the country and paid the $20-50 per show, to see these clowns out of DC perform some popular radio shit? I mean, I like them as much as the next guy but let's be serious.

Anyways, this weekend as a whole was probably the real, last fun weekend of the semester and I have 4 final exams in addition to one, unexpectedly difficult take-home exam that will limit next weekend's shenanigans fo sho. Unfortunate. But all good things must come to an end, I guess.

  • Being the Change you wish to see

I joined Student Senate for a variety of reasons, one of course was to get back in touch with my Student Government roots and see if my passion was still the same. You know, the roots that saw me be involved in student gov from my 5th grade year to 10th grade. Saw me be Class President for 3 years in a row. Saw me get voted "Most Like to be President of the United States", despite being born in Canada. Etc Etc. Anyways, despite the longevity of the meetings (2-4hours), I love how much we accomplish. We pass bills, resolutions, and actually make shit happen on this campus.

My committee I am on, the finance and procedures committee, literally has the power to do virtually anything on this campus. You want a "student-lawyer" to advise you after getting arrested? Bam. New idea just implemented by the FnP committee, baby. There's about 8 kids including myself in FnP, and everybody contributes something. In HS, people just joined student gov for shits and giggles. That train has stopped my friends. People actually give a fuck now, and want to use their ideas and intelligence to not only better the lives of themselves, but our fellow students around this campus. Yes, this sounds lame. Yes, this sounds a little cliche and overplayed. But hey, sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction.

Speaking of "being the change I wish to see in the world", etc etc....I decided last week to accept my internship offer in Washington DC aka the capitol of the free world, essentially. I will be interning and making a little under 8bucks an hour (pathetic, but hey it's paid) working for Dutko Worldwide Lobbyist Firm. Not sure my exact job description yet, but I will be doing everything from meeting with Senators, going to Congressional Hearings, organizing and presenting projects on everything from Health Care to Global Warming, and wining and dining people. Right up my alley...I hope. Additionally, I will hopefully be making some extra money on the side by bar tending with my friend Jasper at night. Woo Woo. Summer 09' in DC will be Legendary, my friends. Stay tuned...

  • Keep it Coming

I promise I'm going to get back to updating this thing semi-consistently, no...seriously, I will. Trust me. I just always keep my thoughts constantly flowing through my mind throughout the course of the day instead of just writing them all out and letting go of them for a little while. Yet I digress. So yesterday, I decided to get a leg up on that thing called my future and took a free practice GRE test, which is the admission test Graduate School. I clearly had no idea what would be on it but I figured it'd be worth taking since if the economy continues to blow harder than Lindsay Lohan in a strip club, extending my education is a possibility. Basically, the test was like the SAT 2.0, with the same kind of math but more emphasis in Geometry, a Verbal section, and writing section. I have forgotten nearly all the math required to do better than average on that thing, awesome. Speaking of my future, I really have no fucking clue what I'm going to end up doing or where I'm going to end up doing it, kind of scary...considering I know I don't want to be back home after graduation looking for my shadow in Jacksonville working some shit job while I wait for something better to come along. I have applied for around 12-15 solid internships, nearly all of which are paid ones in the Washington DC area since I think I may want to use my communication skills for a government agency considering there will always be jobs in government. Otherwise, I have applied for internships in public relations fields that could be just as beneificial if I perform like a CHAMP during the internship and convince them to hire me after I graduate. Shit is stressful, for sure, till then...I will continue to be distracted with my Epic European Extravanganza Invasion in T-Minus 11 days...YES.

  • Bloggin while joggin

My body has programmed itself to pretty much wakeup before 7 everyday during the week, since I've been getting it in Mon/Tues mornings with Will, doing morning runs and then I do cycling with Matt on Wednesdays. By the time Thursday morning comes I'm like fuck it, and just wake up and run regardless. Just getting in solid base and workouts before I open up sometime in late March I'm probably thinking. Not sure yet. Other than that, still plotting away for my epic 10 day adventure in Europe. I keep finding out there are more and more friends over there then I realized. I just wish I had more time to see them all. So far, I'm hoping to see Ang, Kendra, and Tino in Florence, Jenn, Libby, and Steph in Seville, and then end in Barcelona with Jasper/Julia. This trip has me stressing because I keep spending money on stupid things here like fast food and alcohol when I have a little over 3 weeks to go till my trip. Sometimes I can't even focus in class cause all I keep thinking about is the trip and seeing everyone, it's outrageous. Shenanigans x10, here I FUCKING COME.
